Research & Development

R&D is an essential part of our activities as we provide our customers with products and services that not only meet the challenges of drilling under extreme pressure and temperatures and highly corrosive environments, but also serve high performance mechanical and structural applications.

Our global industrial structure supports a worldwide research and development organization, consisting of more than 200 scientists and engineers. Our R&D network develops in-house scientific advances in the fields of metallurgy, alloy design, corrosion resistant materials, computational mechanics, fracture mechanics, surface and coating chemistry, as well as technology for automotive components and mechanical pipe applications and full-scale testing of premium connections, line pipe and OCTG.

Our R&D facilities are located in the following countries:

Argentina: Our center in Campana provides scientific and technological research support in a variety of areas including finite element analysis (FEA) and modeling, full-scale product testing, process metallurgy, fracture mechanics and corrosion testing.

Mexico: Our center in Veracruz conducts advanced technology research on new products with full-scale testing of premium connections, full-scale fatigue testing of welded and threaded products, fracture mechanics and a welding technology laboratory.

Japan: Our laboratory in Kawasaki is mainly devoted to full-scale testing of premium connections, corrosion-resistant alloys and drill pipe design.

Italy: We have an equity participation in the Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A. (CSM), a leading European center for innovation in materials and in related production, design and application technologies, located in Rome. CSM carries out full-scale testing of premium connections and tubes, physical modeling, mechanical product design and testing, physical metallurgy and welded line pipe.
